Coaching background
Ian comes from the unique and fascinating world of high performance sport. Two worlds collide in the coaching space. Ian brings a blended approach from coaching and applied sport psychology, deeply rooted in principles underpinned by scientific research and layered on personal experiences as a high performance athlete.
Ian is a strong advocate for coaching being a collaborative relationship. Ian’s ability to build trust at pace, create a non-judgemental environment and support and challenge the client towards their own perception of success is fascinating.
Clients experience coaching with a person who has extensive knowledge when it comes to human behaviour and brain function. Ian holds a postgraduate degree in ‘Applied Sport Psychology’, and has completed a rigorous six year accreditation process to meet the competencies necessary for applied practice.
He is currently completing his doctorate in ‘Career transitions with high level performers’, where he has had the incredible opportunity to present his research at Stanford University, California.

Collaborations
Clients with whom Ian has experienced strong bonds and relationships have been wide reaching. Primarily, those that hold leadership positions within organisations have approached Ian due to his insights and experiences in optimising performance across all levels of the organisation in high pressure, high stress and high stakes scenarios.
Ian is passionate about supporting clients who have the inner courage to explore and be curious about all facets of their lives, creating a blue ocean between themselves and the challenges that they had previously owned.
Philosophy and route into executive coaching
Ian’s deep fascination around ‘human performance’ accelerated when hopes of success as a professional rugby player were dashed when diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening heart condition. Reflecting throughout his arduous journey of life-changing trauma, adversity and resilience Ian came to the recognition that the power of human potential starts fundamentally by ‘knowing thyself’.
Ian’s approach positions you, the client, at the centre of the developmental process, providing a safe space in which to listen, explore and be curious around how you view your current challenge(s) so you can work together to face these with courage and personal responsibility. Ian and the client will take meaningful action, utilising your own ‘free will’ to perform and live in a way of your choosing. You will leave with the ‘self-knowledge’ to ‘self-manage’ yourself in a range of situations.
Through a deep exploration around your own narrative we will enable you to have the most beneficial relationship with your thoughts, feelings and emotions so that it positively impacts your well-being, behaviour and performance.
